          Lieutenant Commander Sean Stein, a native of Hackensack, New Jersey, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2002 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science.
 
Following initial Nuclear Power Training, Lieutenant Commander Stein began his career as a submarine officer on board U.S.S. PROVIDENCE (SSN 719) where he served as Reactor Controls Division Officer, Assistant Engineer, Force Protection Officer, and a variety of junior officer billets from December 2003 to December 2006, deploying to the Western Pacific.  

Following his initial sea tour, he reported to Naval Reactors Headquarters in Washington D.C. and served as the Los Angeles Class fleet liaison for Instrumentation and Control related issues from January 2007 until April 2009.  Following completion of the Submarine Officer Advanced Course, he reported as Engineer Officer on U.S.S. PITTSBURGH (SSN 720) from September 2009 until January 2013.  While on PITTSBURGH he completed two deployments to the European and Central Command area of operations.

After a brief tour as a member of the staff of Commander Submarine Squadron Four, he reported in October 2014 to his current assignment as the first Navigator and Operations Officer of the Pre-Commissioning Unit COLORADO (SSN 788), where he is responsible for establishing the ship’s Navigation and Operations Department and developing the ship’s non-nuclear qualification programs.

Lieutenant Commander Stein holds an Executive Masters of Business Administration from the Naval Post Graduate School, a Masters of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University, and is a graduate with distinction from the United States Naval War College where he earned Masters of National Security and Strategic Studies.

His personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy Achievement Medal
(4 awards), and several unit and service awards. 

He is married to the former Nina Hoffman of Erdenheim, PA.  They have two daughters, Rachael and Maya, and reside in Oakdale, CT.
